Introduction to Digital Photography

from:

Digital photography has come along way since its introduction and became commercially available in the market sometime in the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. This made the shift of consumers’ desire from the film cameras in favour of the digital camera.
We first define Digital photography. Digital Photography is the act of taking pictures and saving it into a digital format. A scanned photograph, therefore, can also be considered as a digital photograph.
The introduction of digital photography shifted the consumer’s preference from the film camera to the digital for several reasons.
First, the result of the digital photographs is instantaneous. After you have taken a shot, the photographer can see the preview immediately and can decide whether to take it or delete the photo. This saves cost since if you will be using a film camera, you cannot see the photo unless you have it processed after and have it print.
Second, is the sharing of the photographs. Since the pictures are in digital image, you can easily share it through emails, burn it to a disc, print it like film photographs or just send it through your mobile phones. Since most of the mobile phones today has the feature of digital camera, you can easily take pictures of moments in your life and share it instantly to your love ones.
Third, you can edit the digital photos if it does not fit your taste. With the availability of image enhancers and photo editors, any flaws can be easily remedied specially if you are still an amateur photographer and needs assistance on photo principles like angle and balancing images while taking shots of photos. Moreover this adjusts photo flaws like the red-eyed and fading colours.
Fourth, digital photographs can easily be stored. Digital photographs can be stored in different forms like saving it in optical disks, printing it or uploading it to your computer. While films, can easily be damages when stored at wrong temperature or have it accidentally exposed to the air.
On the other hand, there are still who chose film photographs over the digital ones. The purists claim that photos taken on a film is much more life like than that of the digital. However, with the developments in image enhancements and resolutions, digital photos answer this claim.
The more advanced digital cameras of today are slowly but surely gaining ground and it will only be a matter of time before they produce images that will impress even the purists.
